Mecha Uma: A Culinary Performance Venue

Jorge Manuel Yulo, the creative mind behind Mecha Uma, drew inspiration from the dynamic energy of a chef's kitchen. He envisioned the chef, surrounded by discerning diners, with a thought cloud hovering above him, reflecting the creative process of crafting a dish. This concept, reminiscent of comic books, was brought to life in the design of the restaurant, with the thought cloud represented as an ephemeral, non-structural element.

Mecha Uma is more than just a restaurant; it's a culinary performance venue. The young chef, in his early 20s, serves creative Japanese cuisine to two sets of 10 guests each night. Each dish on the tasting menu is accompanied by a narrative from the chef, creating an intimate and cordial atmosphere where neither chef nor guest is positioned above the other.

The design theme of Mecha Uma is raw, reflecting the authenticity of the ingredients and the talent behind the dishes. Elements of concrete, steel, copper, glass, and wood are combined to create a space that is as unique and creative as the cuisine it serves. The restaurant, located in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, Metro Manila, spans a modest 64 square meters, further emphasizing the intimate and exclusive dining experience.

The unique properties and innovative design of Mecha Uma have not gone unnoticed. In 2021, the restaurant was awarded the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award.
